MUSES & INSPIRATION: COLOR & CONTRAST FOR SPRING 09

Estonian sunset from a postcard Yoana found in Paris

The electric blues and fiery reds of a brilliant sunset over the sea in Estonia just minutes before night consumes day serve as the glamorous inspiration for the Yoana Baraschi Spring 2009 collection. Mirroring the image of a favorite postcard, the collection offers playful prints with bold strokes of colors and striking graphic details.

The collection is the perfect marriage of classically feminine designs with fanciful touches making timeless additions to any wardrobe. Because every woman is entitled to change her mind, the collection offers a taste for her every whim. The Superheiress and Superhero suiting collections are for the woman in control of her destiny whether she’s wearing Superhero Uptown Dress in the boardroom or in the Superheiress Bustier Dress at cocktails. The Haute Hippie and Heiress Boho collections are for the more fanciful woman for jet set jaunts to exotic locales looking effortlessly enchanting in the Heiress Boho Caftan or a weekend of finds at the local flea market looking hippy chic in the Haute Hippie Lounge Dress. Let’s not forget the New York collection, its playful leopard prints are ideal for a night of dancing on banquets in the city that never sleeps.

Whether it’s the woman you are, or the woman you aspire to be, the Yoana Baraschi woman embraces her true self and isn’t afraid to show the world that she’s bold, feminine, smart, and chic, but there’s one thing she’s not and that’s shy.

MUSES & INSPIRATION: BONNARD AND REDON

One of Redon's most beautiful bouquets!

One of Redon's most beautiful bouquets!

When I’m designing I find inspiration in a myriad of different places. Sometimes it comes from looking at the night sky or walking through the park. Sometimes, most often that is, faith brings forth the needed element that will be the bases of the new collection- as when inspiration strikes on a trip to a museum.

There are a couple of painters that I consider masters of color. Their work touched me and permanently imprinted my artistic vision. Bonnard, a French painter and contemporary of Henry Matisse, paints liquid color and moving light in the guise of mundane domestic portraits and landscapes with such clarity and dedication that color and light become an all embracing force that bathes your soul.  A second constant source of inspiration in my life is Odilon Redon.  He also was a French painter named the “prince of dreams” who discovered joy and happiness in the later part of his career when he dedicated his work to the joyous exploration of color.

What do you think? Read more to see some of my painterly prints and let me know who your favorite artists are and where you find inspiration.
